Lichen Unto Death
Review by Magellan | July 1, 1999

The mapmakers at Badlands serve up yet another fine map with Lichen Unto Death, a well-crafted two-starter that promises many entertaining games in a lush tropical setting.

The presence of the General unit will allow for two waves of reinforcements to teleport in to your service at fixed times during the game. Also debuting on this map is the "Smart Ghol" unit. It can attack with its cleaver even if it is holding pus.
This is a map best enjoyed with at least six players between the two teams. The mesh is fairly large with many opportunities for multiple engagements in varying terrain. Lichen Unto Death sports a few innovations from the Badlands workshop. Two temples, if you have the mettle to climb them, have a mossy patch at the top that you can step into and receive healing. If you are playing a game in Legendary difficulty mode, the presence of the General unit will allow for two waves of reinforcements to teleport in to your service at fixed times during the game. Also debuting on this map is the "Smart Ghol" unit. It can attack with its cleaver even if it is holding pus or a satchel. The special ability "T" attack instructs the ghol to heave its nasty cargo, if it is holding any.

Lichen Unto Death is a wonderful map, with a dark mesh variant, that provides great fun with the games that require a more strategic approach – Territories, Captures, Flag Rally, and Scavenger Hunt come to mind as examples. The beauty of this map is that depending on the game type, you will find yourself exploring and exploiting different parts of the terrain. It's obvious a lot of thought went into this map's design, and the work was well worth it.
